How to get to Tuscany by plane.

If you come from Europe, you will find that cheaper flights are the ones by RyanAir and easyJet landing in Pisa. Cheap flights from London Gatwick (LGW) towards Florence are provided by Vueling and CityJet airlines.

Visitors coming from the USA or generally from outside Europe can sometimes save money by landing first in another European country (usually London-UK, Paris-France, Frankfurt-Germany) and then take a flight to Italy. Direct flights from USA to Italy are currently (2020) landing in Florence, Bologna, Milan, Rome, Venice, Naples

Tuscany's airports

Tuscany has two international airports. The busiest one is the Galileo Galilei at Pisa, the other is the Aeroporto di Firenze (Amerigo Vespucci) in Florence.

The airport is located close to the city of Florence, this official site provides general information for passengers on the airlines, flight schedules, live arrivals and departures. It is also known as Peretola, by the name of the locality in which it is located.
Aeroporto Galileo Galilei PSA (Pisa's airport)
Busiest Tuscan airport is Pisa's international airport. Easy connection to and from Florence's central railway station Firenze SMN. The official site contains travellers information, scheduled flights and real-time arrivals and departures.
Marina di Campo EBA (Elba island)
The small Elba island has got an airport, commercial flights are sheduled mostly during summer. Destinations: Munich, St. Gallen/Altenrhein, Zurich, Lugano, Bern, Florence, Milan-Linate, Pisa.

Bologna airport Guglielmo Marconi BLQ (Emilia Romagna)
Guglielmo Marconi is the busiest airport of Emilia-Romagna. It is the nearest to Tuscany and it's well connected to other EU cities. It has got low cost carriers too. Freccia Rossa train from Bologna to Florence takes about 35 minutes.
Rimini Airport Federico Fellini RMI (Emilia Romagna)
Also known as Rimini-Miramare. The distance from Florence by car is 2h 15m (220 Km). Mostly flights to Moskow Russia and Amsterdam Netherland. Seasonal flights to Germany, Amsterdam, Bucurest, Egypt. Many seasonal flights, during summer, change almost every year. Easy to reach by train changing in Bologna. Very cheap alternative route by train to Florence: change at Faenza and take a regional train to Florence (but it takes more time).
Aeroporto Internazionale San Francesco d'Assisi PEG (Perugia, Umbria)
Umbria is a region boarding with Tuscany, the airport is about 10km from the city of Perugia. Driving time to Florence is approximately 2 hours (160Km), approximately 2h40min hours by train+bus or just bus (Baltour coach, two hours trip). Perugia's small airport is served by RyanAir with international flights to Bruxelles Charleroi, London Stansted, Barcelona Girona. Perugia option is strongly advised if you are going to stay in the boarding province of Arezzo.
Marco Polo VCE (Venice, Veneto)
One of the most busy in Italy. Nearest railway station are Venezia Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia. Fast trains connect them to Florence respectively in 1h53min and 2h5min. Railway operators on this line are Trenitalia and NTV.
Milan airports Linate and Malpensa (Lombardia)
Well connected to the rest of Europe and the USA. You can reach Tuscany by train, Florence to Milano Centrale in 1h40min. Train from Milano Centrale to Malpensa 44 minutes, ATM shuttle from Milano Centrale to Linate 25 minutes. By car from Florence it's a three hours trip.
Aeroporto Internazionale Il Caravaggio Orio al Serio BGY (near Bergamo, Lombardia)
Small airport with many low cost flights, mostly by RyanAir and Wizz. Bergamo is a city 48 Km from Milan. By car from Florence: about 3 hours and 30 minutes. By train: reach Milano Centrale, then regional train to Bergamo (50 minutes) and shuttle, or better, directly a shuttle from Milano Centrale (companies: Autostradale, Terravision, Orioshuttle).
Rome airports Fiumicino and Ciampino (Lazio)
You can reach Tuscany by fast train or car (3 hours to Florence).
Aeroporto Internazionale Sandro Pertini – Torino-Caselle TRN (Turin, Piedmont)
Many low cost connections (Ryan Air, Meridiana etc.). Three hours by train from Florence, change in Milan to Torino Porta Susa or Porta Nuova. Then GTT train or coach service by Sadem to the airport.
